Drone Inspection

UAS Drone Inspection provides faster and safer way to ensure system reliability

One of the areas where drones will make the biggest impact is in the inspection process.

Drone inspection is transforming manual inspection processes, allowing inspectors to speed up their collection of  data while altogether removing slower manual steps that place them in danger.  Traditionally most utilities would basically have someone on the ground or in a bucket truck to perform an inspection.  Individuals on the ground get a limited view of the pole and assets while sending up a bucket truck offers more detail but is very expensive.

Drone inspection offers several advantages, chiefly, cost savings, reduced risk to human inspectors in dangerous environments, faster data collection, and improved accuracy in assessing the condition of assets.  Any inspection that can’t be completed easily and thoroughly from ground level can usually be accomplished safer and more cost effectively from a drone.

Drone Inspection

Electric utility inspections come with their own set of distinct requirements and concerns. It is important to understand the key factors, such as ensuring a safe distance from high-voltage areas and challenges of operating in a bucket truck.

UAVs are adept at inspecting areas that are difficult to reach or that present high risks, often with a clarity and detail that the naked eye might miss.

By keeping ground staff out of harm’s way and significantly reducing the time taken for inspections, drones are crafting a future where utility line checks are quicker, safer, and infinitely more precise.

Detail Imaging

Drone imaging allows for both RGB and Thermal to provide a comprehensive picture of what is happening at each assets.  Advanced camera technology and better positioning allow detailed analysis for each component.  Small issues such as track marks or lose connections can be identified before they eventually become catastrophic failures.

Thermal cameras can show components or connections that are overheating and significantly more likely to fail.  The continued drive towards more electric vehicles, appliances and data processing will push your system harder.  Knowing what areas or components are at risk can keep you ahead of a larger failure in the future.

FINDINGS REPORT

Don’t expect just images, get a full report on findings, outlining the points of concern.  This actionable information lets you plan to resolve potential issues within the system.  You can prioritize actions based on the levels of need presented.

Drone inspection can also be used to update your GIS information.  This can help ensure the most accurate location data.  In addition we can help with all of your attachments to make sure that you’re being correctly compensated by the various cable and communications vendors who use your assets.
